Norton & Co. , 1955 Seller ID 18359 253 pages, 6 plates, map endpapers, cloth, very good. From the publisher's foreword: 'In the remote wilds of Northeast Burma, long before a world war threatened, Dr. Seagrave was carrying on his own war against malaria, disease and death as a missionary doctor in the little village of Namkhan. Then came the war. Dr. Seagrave was commissioned in the U.S. Medical Corps, formed a mobile medical unit, organized emergency ambulance service, and put field hospitals where they were needed. This was the story told in Burma Surgeon. In its sequel, Burma Surgeon Returns, Dr. Seagrave told of the hard-fought campaign to retake Burma, of the further adventures of his medical init and the achievements of the brave little nurses as they carried on their arduous service in casualty clearing stations, always longing for the day when they would see their home again and be reunited with the people they loved. At last the enemy was driven out of Burma, the 'Burma Surgeon' and his unit returned to Namkham and the hospital in the hills entered on a decade that was to be filled with dramatic events. The story that follows tells of that eventful decade.
