Manion, Rob Collector's Guide No. 1 Tinnies of the Third Reich. Produced by the Staff of the Fox Hole [Revised 2nd Edition] Kansas City, KS Self Published 1981 Revised Edition Hardcover Very Good with no dust jacket 120 pages, well illustrated, red cloth, very good. Scarce. From the introduction: "Tinnies with their high relief work, unusual form and shapes and colorful subjects have always fascinated collectors. My book will introduce collectors to tinnies by supplying both a clear and simple text on their history and function in Nazi Germany as well as offering a series of sharp and clear actual photographs of tinnies, both rare and common. In addition to pictures, I will offer a translation of the inscription on the tinnie and comments as to certain types, symbolism and function. ~The word 'tinnie' is a generic term denoting a propaganda badge most commonly associated with the Nazi Third Reich. A tinnie need not be of metal, indeed some are of plastic, others of paper, still other such badges are woven with plastic frames and others are of a soft soap stone. The name 'tinnie' has evolved from the commonly held belief that most of these badges are made of tin or zinc. Thus 'tinnie' is an extension of the metal content and has since come to represent almost all such small propaganda badges of Nazi Germany. "
