1 Baldwin, John Early Knives & Beaded Sheaths of the American Frontier [Signed]
West Olive, MI Early American Artistry 1997 0965114619 / 9780965114615 First Edition Hardcover Very Good with no dust jacket Signed by Author
79, [3] pages, well illustrated (many in color) , diagrams, red leatherette with gilt illustrations of two knives and one sheath on front cover, corners bumped otherwise fine. Signed by author. Foreword by Norm Flayderman. From the preface, “Welcome to the second book in our series, ‘Of the American frontier. ’ The original idea, subject matter and title was to be, ‘Indian Knives and Beaded Sheaths, ’ pre-1900. Since any knife given, traded to, or used by an American Indian could be called an Indian knife, we refocused on an entire concept of knives called “Early Knives. ’ This more appropriate description could be any knife in a large group that, and we emphasize the word ‘could’ have been used in a beaded sheath. This opened the door for a meaningful study and research paper on the subject of manufactured early knives, trade knives, and homemade knives of all kinds that were available to everyone living on the ever-changing American frontier. All these early knives were used exclusively by no one group, but as a matter of fact by everyone. ”’ Scarce. ; Signed by Author

2 Burton, Kenneth J. A Sure Defence. the Bowie Knife Book.
Balmain, Nsw Author 1988 0731613775 / 9780731613779 Hardcover Very Good with no dust jacket
Xiv, 99 pages, well illustrated, red pictorial boards, very good. From the foreword by Edgar F Penzig: “With the publication of this book, A SURE DEFENCE, Ken Burton has finally filled a large gap which is existed for many years within the archives of our country's history, and that is relating to the use of knives, especially the fighting kind, during Australia's wild colonial days. Years of painstaking research has resulted in a most readable and interesting manuscript which will be equally at home in the library of either the layman, the collector or the dedicated historian. By containing his efforts to edged weapons, Ken Burton has been able to produce a comprehensive work on Bowie knives which can stand on an equal footing with any such reference work available on the market at the present time. On the photographic side, the excellent illustrations clearly reveal to the reader the exciting diversity of blades, inscriptions, and hilts on these work tools and items of protection from yesteryear, whilst the list of makers and retailers, both here and overseas, are of great benefit to the collector”. ; 10.30 X 8.20 X 0.50 inches; 99 pages

In Africa throwing blades can be found in great numbers and in a large variety of forms over a wide area, and are used for many different purposes. The majority of them are to be found in central Africa in an area bounded by latitude 20 degrees north to 3 degrees south and longitudes 10 degrees to 35 degrees east. 6 Gaddis, Robert L. Randall Made Knives. the History of the Man and the Blades.
Boulder, CO Paladin Press 1993 0873647114 / 9780873647113 Hardcover Very Good in Very Good- dust jacket
304 pages, illustrations, diagrams, red cloth, dust jacket in protective mylar covering, very good. From the dust jacket, “RANDALL MADE KNIVES is the authorized history of Bo Randall and his blades, told in his own words and those of the people who knew him best, his family, his co-workers, his friends, and his customers. Compiled through meticulous research that included correspondence, sketches, catalogs, and personal interviews, this book spans the years from 1936 when Bo first became interested in knife making, through the war years when he had to scavenge for materials and part-time help to keep U. S. GIs in Fighters, through the present where his son, Gary Randall, carries on the tradition of excellence established by his father. It contains correspondence between Bo and several people whose place in history are well secured, including Ronald Reagan, the Mercury 7 astronauts, writer James Jones of From Here to Eternity fame, General John Singlaub, Colonel Rex Applegate, and others. More than 100 beautiful photographs of all 25 models of Bo’s knives, as well as treasured and rare photographs of early or famous knives, including a never before published and previously lost photo of Bo’s very first knife, alone are worth the price of this book. And blade makers and historians alike will want to get their hands on copies of the original sketches Bo used to make some of his special knives, including his Bowie's. Just as Randall knives have been the standard by which all handmade knives have been judged for more than 50 years, RANDALL MADE KNIVES is destined to become the historical reference for knife lovers, historians, and Military buffs who want to know more about Bo Randall and his blades." ; 11.28 X 8.88 X 0.95 inches; 304 pages

7 Ghiringhelli, Vanna The Invincible Krises 2 With a Description of the Keris Blade Forging by Sandro Forgiarini.
Vercelli, Italy Saviolo 2007 8895125053 / 9788895125053 First Edition Hardcover Very Good+ with no dust jacket
190 pages, well illustrated in color, pictorial boards, very good in white cardboard slipcase. From the introduction, “I write this introduction using the present tense, although I shouldn't, because, as all readers certainly know, the Kris has now lost its importance in Indonesia and Malaysia, it is alive only in the heart of the few people who still live inside the tradition and in the collector’s mind and Imagination. The Kris world stretches over a very large geographic area. It goes from the Malayan Peninsula, through Indonesia, as far as the Sulu islands and Mindanao in the Philippines, inhabited by Muslim Morro people. Traveling through the archipelago, the Kris dragged along a peculiar baggage: Indian, Chinese, Muslim, local and European cultures all melted down inside the fantastic Indo-Malay crucible. It's nowhere to be found such a combination of cultural elements. Together with what Indo-Malay people call ‘isi keris’, it pushed the Kris to the highest level and the loftiest rank among all edged weapons in the world."

9 Hamzuri Keris. [Kris]
Jakarta Penerbit Djambartan 1984 Paperback Very Good- with no dust jacket
64 pages, illustrations, map, diagrams, red pictorial wrappers, slight shelf wear to covers otherwise very good. Gift inscription to former owner on half-title. English translation by Judi Achjadi. Photographs by Jusuf Razak. From the introduction: "This small book is about the Keris. However, a discussion of the Keris is a discussion of life in Javanese, Balinese, Madurese, Sulawesi, and other Indonesian communities where the Keris is found and used. The Keris occupies a special, important place in the community, it is not regarded merely as a weapon. In this part of the world, and particularly in Indonesia, there are many weapons which are considered to be sacred and endowed with supernatural powers, and therefore, must be respected, for example, the rencong of Aceh, the mandau of Kalimantan, and the badik of South Sulawesi. A man feels safe when he has such weapons at his side."
