1 Everett, Michael The Birds of Paradise
Chartwell Books 1987 B00071HWVC Hardcover Very Good in Good dust jacket
144 pages, well illustrated in color, cloth, DJ, very good. 9 by 12 inches. From the dust jacket: "Because of their brilliant coloring, the birds of paradise and their close relations, the bowerbirds, have attracted the attention of some of the finest ornithological artists of the 19thand 20th centuries, notably in R. Bowdler Sharpe's 'Monograph on Paradiseidae', published in parts between 1891 and 1898. Many of the illustration in this book are taken from the magnificent color plates by John Gould, W. Hart and J. G. Keulemans which appeared in Sharpe's book. Those birds which were still undiscovered in Sharpe's time are the subject of fine original paintings by Peter Hayman one of today's leading ornithological artists. Altogether, there are 58 plates in full color and 85 illustrations and maps in two colors. The notes which accompany the plates give details of the extraordinary displays and ceremonial dances performed by the birds of paradise and the amazing bowers of flowers and berries constructed by the male bowerbirds. In addition to the description of 42 species of the birds of paradise and the 18 of the bowerbirds, this beautiful book also contains detailed distribution maps of the various species and photographs of the birds habitat." ; 144 pages
