1 Adams, William L. A Melodrame Entitled Treason, Stratagems, and Spoils
Hamden, CT Archon Books 1968 0208006974 / 9780208006974 Hardcover Very Good in Good dust jacket
[6], 163 pages, illustrations, cloth, DJ, very good. From the DJ: A significant document in the field of Western Americana, Treason, Stratagems and Spoils first appeared serially in the Portland Oregonian of 1852. The author, William Lysander Adams, writing under the pseudonym of Breakspear, was perhaps the best-read Oregonian of his time. Apart from the pun on Shakespeare's name and the title drawn from the Merchant of Venice, literary allusions, quotations and echoes abound in the text. Adams insight and prescience in regard to Democratic Party affairs in the newly developing territory are also evident throughout, and there is little doubt that his contempories, while perhaps not understanding all his many references, were fully aware of the main targets of his attack. This edition of the work, the first since its original printing, is being published by Archon Books for the Yale University Library. ; 163 pages

Xii, 758 pages, cloth, very good. From the preface: "The writing of a new textbook introducing American government would seem to require some justification. We rest the case for our attempt on a belief that available empirical data from all the social sciences should be sued tin seeking to explain the political aspects of the social process. . . We have concentrated on analyzing the social functions of political institutions and the social roles of participants in the political process, emphasizing the conceptual framework on which these functions and roles are based. 3 Ambrose, Stephen E. Nixon. the Education of a Politician 1913-1962.
Simon & Schuster 1987 067152836X / 9780671528362 Hardcover Very Good in Very Good dust jacket
720 pages, illustrations, cloth, dust jacket in protective Mylar covering, former owner's embossed label on front blank endpaper otherwise fine. From Library Journal: "Ambrose, noted for his books on Eisenhower, reconsiders Nixon's career objectively in light of the passage of time and puts him into a useful historical context. Primarily, Ambrose examines Nixon's performance as a politician. No prior work has been based upon the amount of primary documentation cited here, and with the exception of Nixon's own writing ( Six Crises and The Memoirs of Richard Nixon ) , there is no more thorough treatment of his pre-presidential years. There is altogether new material on Nixon's vice presidency and his relationship with Eisenhower. Until all relevant documents are available, this and a projected second volume should stand as the definitive political biography." ; 9.40 X 6.30 X 2.10 inches; 720 pages
