Tieke, Wilhelm The Caucasus and the Oil : the German-Soviet War in the Caucasus, 1942/43 Winnipeg J. J. Federowicz Publishing 1995 0921991231 / 9780921991236 Hardcover Very Good 381 pages, illustrations, many maps, boards, fine. Originally published in German as "Der Kaukasus und das Öl. Der Deutsch-sowjetische Krieg in Kaukasien 1942/43." From the website of Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: "The Battle of Caucasus is a generic name for a series of operations in the Caucasus area during the Soviet-German War. In 1942, the Wehrmacht launched Operation Edelweiss, which was aimed at penetrating to the oil fields of Azerbaijan. The German offensive was stopped by the Red Army in Chechenya in September, partly due to severe drain of German personnel to the ongoing Battle of Stalingrad. The Soviet counter-offensive was launched in January 1943. The key military base of Novorossiysk was liberated by September, and the Taman Peninsula was cleared from the Germans in early October. Translated by Fred Steinhardt. From the back cover: "This book is typical Tieke: terse, to-the point, factual and exciting reading! It concentrates on the fighting in the Baltic but covers all the way from the units activation in Croatia in 1943 until the end of the war and the final fighting in Berlin. This will probably represent the only thorough account in English of some of the formations in the corps: e. G . , the 11. SS-Freiwilligen Panzergrenadier-Division "Nordland" and the aforementioned 4. SS-Panzergrenadier-Brigade "Nederland". 482 pages, more than 150 photos, including 54 previously unpublished photos of a member of SS-Panzerjger-Abteilung 54 of the 4. SS-Panzergrenadier-Brigade " Nederland " and score of maps." M66; 483 pages Price:
