ELLIS, C[UTHBERT] HAMILTON A picture history of railways. London Hulton Press 1956 Hard Cover Very Good 160 pages, 408 illustrations, cloth, ex-library with usual library markings otherwise very good, 8-1/2 by 11 inches. From the STEAMINDEX website on UK railways: "Cuthbert Hamilton Ellis's output is fascinating on a great many levels. He could certainly write: there is widespread agreement on that. He appears to have been an accurate observer of a railway system which has long since departed, namely that of the Edwardian period, which many regard as being the zenith of the railway age. He was also an artist, whom George Dow, appears to have admired in terms of accuracy. He even wrote a small amount of fiction about railways mainly for boys. ~ Ottley who always considered that the bibliographer should stand apart from the literature stated in the preface to the second supplement to his Bibliography: "His [Hamilton Ellis's] railway books (over thirty in all) provided highly informative and enjoyable reading for anyone with an armchair fondness for railways."
