Demaison, Gerard and Buffetaut, Yves Honour Bound: Chauchat Machine Rifle. Cobourg, Ontario Collector Grade Publications 1995 0889351902 / 9780889351905 Hardcover Very Good in Very Good dust jacket Xvi, 209 pages, well illustrated, diagrams, cloth, DJ, very good. 8 by 11 inches. Produced and edited by R. Blake Stevens. From the dust jacket: When the need for a portable machine rifle became urgent in 1915, the only existing arm in 8mm Lebel caliber was the prewar CS (Chauchat-Sutter) , based on John Browning's long barrel recoil system, small numbers of which were employed by French aviation. From this Colonel Chauchat hurriedly produced the Modele 1915 Infantry CSRG (Chauchat) , designed fo rapid mass production. Often maligned today, the CSRG was nevertheless the best available weapon for specialist anti-machinegun a d forward defence duties. , , The CSRG was, in spite of its limitations, the world's first successful assault rifle and the most manufactured automatic weapon of WWI. Over 260,000 were manufactured, outdistancing every other automatic arm made by the Allies and the Central Powers. ; 209 pages Price:
