Husband E. Kimmel and Lt. Gen. Walter C. Short. Kimmel refused to take this lying down and his efforts to defend himself caused FDR to slam down the 'national security' curtain. The full story has never come out. Historian Bruce Bartlett doesn't pretend to know all the answers. But he has unearthed facts long buried in the National Archives and elsewhere, pored over the private papers of the principals, even interviewed many of them, or members of their families, focused on the often ugly efforts of Roosevelt and his cronies to suppress the facts. 182 pages, cloth, dj, very good.
