Perrett, Frank A[Lvord] The Volcano-Seismic Crisis At Montserrate 1933-1937. Washington Carnegie Institution of Washington 1939 First Edition Softcover Very Good Carnegie Institution of Washington Publication No. 512. Xii, 76 pages, 4 maps (1 in color) , well illustrated, 1 folding chart, wrappers, ex-library with usual library markings otherwise very good. From Time Magazine issue of January 25, 1943: "Died. Frank Alvord Perret, 75, volcanologist; of heart disease; in Manhattan. A frail-looking, white-goateed, bespectacled soul, he spent more than half of his adult life dwelling on the slopes of volcanoes, became one of the great authorities on them, a man much sought after by nervous volcano-neighbors. After studying Mount Etna in 1910 he warned the local citizens to move, got out himself; a few weeks later some 250 skeptics died during Etna's eruption. He was summoned to Martinique in 1929 when Pelée gave signs of becoming active again. Nearby St. Pierre had been demoralized by fear and its economic life was virtually finished. Perret foresaw no more dangerous eruptions, settled on Pelée to show his confidence, stayed there ten years. St. Pierre was reassured, revived, and Martinique celebrated a newly created Frank A. Perret Day in 1937, made him an honorary citizen. " ; Ex-Library; 76 pages Price:
